Woodborough Traffic Petition

A number of residents are concerned about the speed that some vehicles drive through Woodborough. They have shared their views with the Parish Council, the local County Councillor and with the County Council Highways Department.

The main concerns are:

  • The increasing dangers posed by speeding vehicles on our narrow roads and without due care or recognition of the narrow pavements.

  • The village being used as a cut through during all hours of the day. A significant proportion of this traffic is also commercial vehicles with larger vehicles ignoring the 7.5t weight restriction.

  • Not only is the traffic problem a concern for pedestrians, joggers, dog walkers, disabled users, cyclists and horse riders travelling within / through the village, it also presents an even greater risk to children. The risk is heightened in the vicinity of the Woodborough school, the Village Hall and Playgroup, the local park and the village church.

  • The pavements throughout the village are not only narrow and in places one sided, the route exiting the village towards Calverton which is regularly used by walkers, has no pedestrian walkway at all; putting pedestrian, including children, families and the elderly at considerable risk.

  • The constant traffic has also impacted the quality of life for many residents and their visitors because of increasing and extremely high noise levels, pollution, speeding bikers and ‘boy racers’; substantially reducing the tranquillity of our homes and gardens that is central to life in our rural community.

  • Many residents are also at high risk when attempting to maintain hedges and gardens fronting Main Street.

They have started a petition to gauge support for imposing a 20mph speed limit through Woodborough. If you wish to sign the petition please use the link below
