Local Government Reorganisation

Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Local Councils have launched another consultation regarding council re-organisation.

This is the most significant change to local government in our area for over 50 years and will shape how Council services are delivered in the future, and councils are asking residents, organisations and partners to take part in the Government’s consultation.

As you may be aware, three options for the future of local government Nottingham and Nottinghamshire were submitted to government in November:

Nottingham City Council submitted a proposal known as Bii.

This includes a review of existing boundaries review, and recommends the creation of two new unitary councils:

· Southwest - comprising Nottingham City, and the more urban parts of Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe.

· North and East - comprising the more rural parts of Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe, combined with Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Mansfield, and Newark and Sherwood.

Bassetlaw District Council, Gedling Borough Council, Mansfield District Council and Newark and Sherwood District Council have submitted a proposal known as 1e.

This north-south proposal recommends the creation of two new unitary councils:

· Sherwood Forest (North Nottinghamshire) – comprising Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Gedling, Mansfield, and Newark and Sherwood.

· Nottingham and South Nottinghamshire (South Nottinghamshire) – comprising Broxtowe, Nottingham City, and Rushcliffe

And finally, Nottinghamshire County Council and Rushcliffe Borough Council have submitted a proposal known as 1b.

This proposal recommends the creation of two new unitary councils:
